Valentine's Day has come and gone, but the search for the perfect mate goes on. And your smartphone may be able to help. Even a few years ago, Internet dating meant tethering yourself to your computer, but these days, mobile devices and location-sensing apps have turned the world into your playground for dates, hookups and long-term relationships, with even Facebook testing out a dating service of its own for its massive social network. Check out our top dating, hook-up and meet-up apps that will help you find the Right One... or the Right Now. (Image Credit: Bbenard/Shutterstock)
Who it's for: Marriage-minded people trying to marry the next person they date. With an opening questionnaire as time-consuming and mushy as this one, we don't expect that many people looking for a hookup would put themselves through that. Their explicit goal is to "create more meaningful connections that lead to fulfilling marriages," so if that's your goal as well this is the site for you.

MeetMe is another one of those location-based dating apps. It features a simple. colorful interface that's easy to use. It also boasts over 100 million downloads and uses between all the various platforms. Its original intention is to be used as a way to meet people in your area. However, if enough sparks fly, those people can easily become more than just friends. The biggest issue with this one is the fake profiles and it's a fairly serious problem. However, most of these apps have fake profile problems so we're not sure when enough is enough. Still, we recommend this one for patient people and, by all means, if you can't find anything in a few weeks, get rid of it.
I have to point out how nice it is to only see one person at a time. When you're given too many matches at once, you don't even know where to start looking and might miss someone important during the rush. With one at a time, you're forced to more seriously consider the person and their intentions, and I wouldn't be surprised if this is part of what makes Match so successful.
OKC is one of the most popular dating apps out there. With over 10 million users since its launch, it’s available in the U.S., Europe, and Canada. It asks a series of questions, designed for you to meet your perfect match. When answering the question, users can indicate their own answer and the answers they would accept from partners to determine what percentage you’ll match with someone.
Once you pick that perfect selfie and write paragraphs to sell all your best attributes to your future mate, it's time to start browsing. This is where the big differences between these apps are apparent. For instance, Tinder, with its famous hot-or-not swiping interface, makes it quick and easy to find your next date. Bumble, on the other hand, puts all the power in the woman's hands; men can't even contact a woman unless she's expressed interest first. Others, like OkCupid, have robust profiles that let you dive deep into a user's personality (or at least the one he or she has decided to present to you), before you decide to go on the pursuit.

There are a few ads, but in my opinion, they don't really interfere with the user experience. Yeah, they're annoying and slightly distracting — if you have so many users paying monthly to use your site, do you really need ads on the home page? But, I digress — the ads are just shopping ads, and they're not the obnoxious "There are hot singles in your area" ads.
The Nuts and Bolts: It’s easy to use and has a simple interface, but you do have to pay to go back to a previous swipe, which is lame. This app is the pioneer of swiping, which in its own right gives it a five out of five. That being said, Tinder is overrated: There are the ads, the inability to swipe backward, and almost too many people on it now. Everyone uses it now, so the pool of potential partners isn’t the best, and the user experience is now a pay-to-play kind of experience.

You’re welcome on this website whether you are seeking to date, hook up, find a long term relationship, or just to chat online. You do not have to worry about your identity being revealed until that’s what you want. Also, you do not need to have your credit or debit card information handy, for the service is free of charge. And for the price of nothing you get a video chatroom, as well as to customize your profile with a video of yourself, and customize it even further with color and music. Having a song that those interested in you will associate with you can boost your chances of becoming someone’s favorite.
One of the better-known gay and lesbian dating apps, HER is a top option for queer women (and womxn) seeking a Tinder-style dating app that's exclusively focused on the LGBTQI+ experience. In its previous incarnation, it was known as Dattch; as HER the app's aim is to be a more-inclusive queer dating hub. Yet, with initial matching based on liking photos from a grid of nearby users, those seeking a serious relationship will have to be ok with asking questions to see if there's a personality connection.8
Setup is basic: You'll see pictures and short bios of potential matches in your area and can swipe right if you're interested and left if you're not. It's a pretty close mock of Tinder, except for the fact that Bumble relieves the anxiety of accidentally swiping left on a hottie by letting you backtrack.  Bumble also offers a BFF feature to find strictly platonic friends and a LinkedIn-ish networking feature called Bizz in attempts to remind everyone that it's not just a hookup app.
About the App: Commitment-minded, professional daters will feel at home with Elite Singles, which can be downloaded for free in the App Store or Google Play. Not only is everyone looking for a long-term partner, but 80% of members hold a bachelor's, master's, or doctorate degree. Elite Singles sees 210,000 visitors and 2,500 users finding love every month, so it's one of the fastest growing and most reputable apps.
The app itself is well designed and pretty straightforward. You need to set up your profiles; there’s one for dating and one for networking. Once your profile is active you can review closely curated dating prospects or access the Social Mode that shows you different hotspots where other members are hanging out. Since the initial application process is so rigorous and Raya has a strict code of conduct, you will find members tend to be more respectful of others. They’re also more invested in the app overall, meaning they’re more likely to meet other members in person.
How does it work? There are no gimmicks or USPs with DatingDirect. In fact, it’s fairly similar to our old friends Match, mentioned above. You can start looking at potential dates for free, then when you like the look of someone and fancy striking up a conversation, you need to subscribe. Like a lot of the best online dating sites, it also has a handy instant messenger service which makes chatting to your matches easy and breezy.
Chat room apps can be decent dating apps if you're the right type of person. Some people don't mind online dating and some people may actually prefer it. Chat room apps give you a chance to join tons of chat rooms, find people with similar interests, and get to know them better. It definitely helps scratch that social itch that single people often get and the online aspect makes it a little easier to manage. Of course, it doesn't substitute a good cuddle or other real human contact. However, we thought it would be a good idea to mention that this is an option to cover every conceivable base. We have a list of chat room apps you can find by clicking on the button above.
You also need to consider if it’s safe and reputable. Some things to look for are SSL encryption, profile verification, Block and Report buttons (for abusive members), and a 24/7 customer support team (even if it’s via email). The dating app doesn’t necessarily have to have all of these components, but the more it has, the less you’ll have to worry.

Nearly 3 years ago my husband and I had our first date after meeting via Dating.com. It's been such an adventure and we have really grown together. We now have a gorgeous house Couldn't be happier and looking forward to spending many more years together and expanding our family in the near future! So grateful to Dating.com! :)

OkCupid has 8 million users. Like POF, the site is free with added features for premium members (otherwise referred to as A-list members). The one thing that puts OkCupid on the list of best free dating sites is the compatibility feature. This is a simple feature that generates questions and quizzes to determine the compatibility of a user to another. They also offer a Tindr-like feature that allows users to rate other users and get notifications when other users rate a user they have already rated.
